I first picked up a camera as a naive 17-year-old in year book class. It was there I began to fall in love with photography. After doing many “photo shoots” with friends, people began to ask me how much I charged - it was then the thought of doing this for more than a hobby began to set in.
Not long after this, I was asked to film a wedding. With no experience and filled with nerve I said yes. It was this experience that made me question my love for photography. Video work was my new found passion.
Shortly after this I stumbled across the Mass Communications program at my local community college (Shoutout Rock Valley College). I learned more about media, production, and story telling. It was this program that helped me to see clearly - I didn’t need to pick between photos or videos. It was in this program I learned that my love was for the camera.
Communicating, story telling, remembering good times- these are the things that drew me to pursue media.
